Easy setup for my photos

Needed somewhere to stash all my photos and decided to try IDrive Photos. It was pretty simple to get going, just downloaded the app and it started uploading everything. Took a bit for all the old pics but it got there. No real issues, just worked.

Backup was so easy!

Got the IDrive Personal plan to back up my laptop and phone, and it was so simple! Set it up in minutes. The files synced super fast, and I love that it supports multiple devices under one account. This was exactly what I needed. I'm definitely shopping with them again!

Good for Mac backups

I purchased the IDrive Personal plan for 5TB to back up my Mac and an external drive. Ordering was straightforward on their website. The download and installation of the desktop client for Mac went smoothly. I set up the initial backup, which took a few hours for about 1.5TB of data, which felt reasonable. I tested restoring a few files, and it worked as expected. I haven't needed customer support yet, so can't comment there. The interface is pretty intuitive once you get used to it. The continuous data protection feature is a nice touch, always running in the background. Overall, I'm happy with how it's handled my backups so far.

Always reliable service

I've used IDrive Personal for a few years now, backing up my home computers. Just renewed for another year. The service is consistent; files are always there when I need them, and the desktop app is easy enough to navigate. This renewal went as smoothly as past ones. Good value for what you get.

Hey, wondering if anyone knows if that 90% off for the first year deal is still active for IDrive? Or was that just a Black Friday thing?

K Karen J. 1 week ago
Yeah, I think it's still around. I signed up last month and got a pretty sweet discount, not sure if it was exactly 90% but it was huge for the first year.

They pretty much always have some big introductory deal for new users. Just check their main page, usually a banner or something. It's how they get you in the door, haha.

Can you use IDrive just for photos? I've got thousands of family photos and want a reliable backup that isn't connected to my phone's storage directly.

L Lisa Flores 3 weeks ago
Yep, absolutely. They even have a specific 'IDrive Photos' app I think, but you can just use the main client to back up any folder you want, including your photo library.

For sure. I use it solely for my Lightroom catalogs and all my RAW files. It's a good set-it-and-forget-it solution.

Thinking of switching from Dropbox to IDrive. How does it compare, especially for backing up a bunch of different devices? Is it easy to manage multiple computers?

A Amber G. 2 weeks ago
IDrive is way better for multiple devices in my opinion. Dropbox is more for syncing specific folders, IDrive is actual backup across everything. Super easy to set up backups for all my family's laptops on one account.

I found it pretty straightforward. You just install the client on each machine and link it to your account. The web interface lets you see everything. I moved from Google Drive and don't regret it.

If I delete files from my computer after they've been backed up to IDrive, do they disappear from the backup too? Or does it keep them?

S Sofia 2 weeks ago
It keeps them! That's one of the best things about it. It doesn't just mirror your drive; it's an actual backup. If you delete something locally, it stays in IDrive until you manually remove it from the backup or it hits the versioning limit.

Nah, it doesn't just poof. It's designed to protect against accidental deletion. There's a retention policy, so old versions or deleted files are usually kept for a bit.
